about me

I’m Katie.

I’m a Capricorn, an Enneagram 3… and probably your next pinned iMessage.

There are a few things I’m really proud of when it comes to my professional life.

Like my 6+ years at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where I was an Assistant Professor of Gynecology & Obstetrics in the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine.

I thrived at Hopkins, furiously chasing opportunities like working on NIH-funded research studies with world-renowned geneticists, surgeons, and fetal interventionists; co-chairing the National Society of Genetic Counselors Prenatal Special Interest Group; and earning special honors like the 2019 NSGC New Leader Award and the 2020 ACMG Genetic Counselor Award.

Or like that time I left academic medicine to take a chance on a biotech start-up I believed in, following my passion for pushing boundaries in traditional healthcare models. I turned 30 and got on a plane bound for San Diego, where I became part of the team that launched the JunoDx Hazel Non-Invasive Prenatal Screen. Yeah, we were the ones who did prenatal cfDNA screening from just a tiny finger-prick.

Now, I thrive at the intersection of science communications and digital marketing — helping healthcare providers and businesses reach their target audiences in meaningful ways.

Don’t get me wrong; I have a pretty dope life outside of work, too.

I’m an ex-NCAA swimmer who, post-grad, swapped lanelines for yoga mats, and am now a 200-hour trained vinyasa teacher.

I live for puppy park dates with my senior dog, Archie, and am always looking forward to an upcoming concert (or three).

I tackle upwards of 60 books per year, and you cannot convince me that color-coding a bookshelf makes any rational sense.

Despite actual credentials of being a family planning expert, I’m thoroughly convinced I am a dating app disaster. But it’s all an opportunity for growth…. right?!

My story is just getting started.
